Online Course Details
PERMANOVA+ will be presented by Distinguished Professor Marti J. Anderson (Massey University and PRIMER-e)
This online course is designed to give a fundamental understanding of how to analyse and gain insights from multivariate data using the software PERMANOVA+, an add-on package for PRIMER 7. Participants will engage in a combination of live, online lectures and practical sessions with real datasets, with plenty of time for asking questions and free-flow discussions with the presenter.
PERMANOVA+ allows analysis of multivariate data in response to complex designs, partitioning variation on the basis of a resemblance measure of choice, with rigorous inferences via permutation methods. The tools in PERMANOVA+ provide formal models, tests and predictions for multivariate (or univariate) ecological (and other) systems that are over-parameterised (i.e., have too many variables) or that demonstrate substantial non-normality.
Participants will explore: analysis and estimation of components of variation for multivariate data in response to complex experimental designs, including interactions, covariates, contrasts, fixed or random factors, crossed or nested models, unbalanced designs, environmental impact designs, mixed models, randomised blocks or repeated measures (PERMANOVA); tests for homogeneity of multivariate dispersions and analyses of beta diversity (PERMDISP); multivariate dissimilarity-based regression and model selection procedures (DISTLM); unconstrained (PCO, mMDS, nMDS) or constrained ordinations using distance-based redundancy analysis (dbRDA) or canonical analysis of principal coordinates (CAP), leave-one-out allocation success for discriminant analysis or canonical correlation analyses based on resemblance matrices, and the placement of new points into existing predictive canonical models.
For much of the final day, participants will be allocated into break-out groups to discuss and analyse their own data in real time in an open, collaborative setting, with support from other participants in the group and the presenter.
Familiarity with the core methods in PRIMER and/or some prior knowledge of basic multivariate methods and experimental design is desirable, although not compulsory. We highly recommend attending a PRIMER 7 course prior to attending a PERMANOVA+ course. Note: An online PRIMER 7 workshop will be held July 24th – 28th, 2023, West Coast USA, Pacific Daylight Time (UTC -7 hrs). How to Register
For further information please download and read the course documents listed in the blue box labelled “Download Information”, above. To register, please send your completed registration form to the PRIMER-e office at: email@example.com. The deadline for registration and payment is October 8th, 2023. Late registrants will only be accepted if space permits.
Workshop Fees and Software
Workshop fees for residents of the USA are: $880 USD for Professionals and $580 USD for Full-time Students. For those who do not reside in the USA, we offer Global Equitability Pricing (GEP) which includes a percentage discount off our standard US prices in direct accordance with the Price Level Ratio (PLR) published by the World Bank for your country of residence. In essence, our GEP means that the amount you pay for our software and registrations for online workshops depends on your country of residence.
Workshop participants may purchase time-unlimited PRIMER software at 10% off our standard prices in $USD. Participants who do not reside in the USA are also eligible for our GEP discount.
Please get in touch with us directly (firstname.lastname@example.org), especially if you would like:
• to obtain a quote for your registration (with or without software), including all discounts for which you are eligible;
• to register more than one individual from your organisation and pay on a single invoice (please include separate registration forms for each individual participant); or
• to purchase more than one software licence at discounted prices on a single invoice.
